So today's Spirit Day! Made to raise awareness for Anti-Bullying. At school, the Thespian group I join, we're really big on raising awareness for anti-bullying. We've had people who were bullied because they were gay, bisexual, or transgender, and they've gone towards committing self-physical harm to themselves because of the harassment.
I for one have been bullied for practically the entirety of my school life. In Elementary school, I was being bullied because I wore glasses and they made fun of my crooked smile and for being too happy apparently. In Middle school, it seemed to have stopped but the harassing came back in the middle of 7th as people stopped to tell me I looked ugly and made fun of me for that. Then there's High School, the first two years were the worse, I didn't wear glasses anymore, but people continued to make fun of my crooked teeth and the fact that I was quiet, which pretty much made me an easy target, no matter what I said in attempt to stand up for myself, they got physical whenever I did. There were some people who were on my side, telling me to fight back (not rough-housing but to take a stand) so in 10th grade, this loser who has been harassing me all year got a mouthful from me, and what happened? He stuck a piece of gum on my hair. Okay, here's where things get worse, these so-called friends, who told me to stand up for myself against him, actually called me stupid and careless for standing up towards the guy, despite the fact that they suggested it to me in the first place!
Before anyone asks, yes, I have gone to my counselor and the teacher, and they did jack. I finally had enough and transferred to another High School beginning in 11th grade, and since then, my social life, self-esteem and self-confidence has drastically improved, I no longer have that many problems with bullies, I still do sometimes but this time I know how to stand up for myself while dodging anything thrown my way in return. This High School is also a top-performing one in my county so its definitely a much better school than my previous one which had such horribly-behaved students and staff.
Well, there's my description of how I lived through bullying while in school @~@; Today, I continue to support Anti-bullying along with my Thespian group, and of course, I lend a hand to those who are under the attack of bullies~ Hopefully we can continue to spread the love and eliminate the hate!
